Documentary Storytelling & Visual Narratives
Documenting education. Making learning visible.
We work with schools, educational institutions and organisations to document and communicate the stories behind education.
Journalism, documentary filmmaking, photography and educational expertise come together in thoughtful visual narratives about people, places, pedagogical practices and learning experiences. We are interested in the questions, relationships, processes and everyday moments that shape education.
What We Make
-
Short films about the identity, philosophy and everyday life of a school or institution. A day in the life of a school. The people behind the practice. The school as a living community. A project followed from its first questions through its evolution.
-
Film can help educators observe, interpret and reflect on how learning unfolds. Imagine following children as they investigate clay, light, shadows or natural materials over several weeks: how their questions and hypotheses develop, how educators respond to the unexpected, how materials and spaces shape thinking.
We develop this work together with educators and pedagogistas, with careful attention to children’s rights, consent and your own documentation practice.
-
Schools and institutions carry histories in photographs, documents, archives and personal memories. We bring them to life through films that connect past and present: archival materials, interviews with former teachers, families and community members, and contemporary footage. They suit anniversaries, exhibitions, archives and conferences.
-
For groups on study visits, Erasmus+ mobilities, conferences and professional development: documentary photography, a short film of the experience, filmed reflections from participants and material prepared for your own channels.
-
Practical workshops on learning to see through a camera, documenting learning through visual narratives, the ethics of representing children and communities, and moving from observation to a short story of your own. They can run on their own or as part of a course.
The Documentary Residency
We spend several days inside your school or institution, observing, interviewing, photographing and documenting one aspect of its educational life. The residency ends with a short documentary, a photographic essay and a reflective conversation with your educators.
